This was the 3rd painting from my "Transposition Series" made in June. The first two photos show the painting before I added the menstrual medium and the third photo shows the final result. I added a pearly powder to the gouache-acrylic mixture, which gives a shiny metalic glow to the yellow-greenish paint.

Announcement:

An upcoming documentary film, "Period: The End of Menstruation" will feature several of my menstrual paintings and a personal interview.

This feature length documentary by film maker Giovanna Chesler explores the current state of menstruation in America. The film documents current trends in menstruation that may change the way we think about it: girls have begun to menstruate at younger ages, some doctors argue that monthly menstruation is not natural nor necessary, and many women now consider birth control options that stop menstrual flow for months, if not for years, at a time. Meanwhile, there are significant movements artistically and educationally, moving away from these trends, which teach women to embrace menstruation and relearn concepts dealing with their bodies, menstruation, menopause and menarche. Women and men on this side of the debate see menstruation as a positive, feminine experience, and encourage women to continue menstruating or to stop menstruating naturally through menopause.

The film will debut in 2005.

Thank you all for your wonderful compliments to my first painting from the Transposition series -- branching out into new media while remembering the old.

Tranposition #2 painted on 18" x 24" gessoed masonite with acrlyic gloss medium, gouache, and menstrual blood.

To those who ask, "why don't you use paint?" -- this is my first from a series of Menstrala that include gouache alongside the menstrual medium. Instead of mixing gouache with water, I mix it with acrylic gloss medium to get a thick malleable texture. I also mix my menstrual blood with the acrylic gloss medium to give it a glossy seal. The painting is on 20" x 16" gessoed masonite board.

Recently, there's less chance of my website serving a file, a picture, or a page. It's more busy at the moment than the server can handle.

Spiralingmoon.com/paintings appeared on Coolpick.com, part of the reason for an overload of over 7,500 visitors in one day last weekend. The site is throttled now.
